Prevent Illegal Development Of Public Park Land in your City & State
East 96th Street & 2nd Avenue. A rendering depicting just a few floors of the massive, 760 foot, 68-story residential tower.
This irresponsible development would be built on Marx Brothers Playground.
WE Need Your Help! The City is planning to build a massive 760 foot tower with 1100 apartments on the corner of 96th Street and 2nd Avenue. This is an irresponsible height that would be egregiously out of context with the community. The original plan called for ONE school but the city is NOW insisting THREE schools be built at the site. This development would bring over 5,000 people to one block area on a daily basis.
It is illegal to build on Public Parkland for non-park purposes. The city is attempting to get around this by having NY State legislators temporally seize (Alienate) the park to allow development by creating commercial zoning.
If allowed NO Public land would be safe in the city! This dangerous precedent would open the floodgates and potentially allow ALL public parkland to be developed! Using parkland alienation for this purpose is misuse of the Public Trust Doctrine.
• After the parkland is developed an equal size of land between buildings would then be returned for use as a public park. For more than 60 years children of all ages have enjoyed the unfettered access to light as result of a corner location of the Marx Brothers playground and heavily adjacent field. This proposed irresponsible one-billion dollar project would destroy that and cast the park in SHADE for most of the day.

• Additional community Impacts would be numerous. Overcrowded local schools, Increased traffic impacts to an already critical situation.
• The MTA is finally vacating the playground site. The community demands that the playground be restored to its original location at 96th Street & 2nd Avenue.
Say NO to destroying our precious playgrounds !
